Blogger Envy: Do you have a bad case of blogger envy? Do you covet thy neighbor bloggers book hauls/follower numbers/blog design? How do you tamp down the green eyed monster?
My Answer:
I used to have a not-so-bad case of blogger envy when I was just starting out with blogging and learning how to design my blog to fit my personality. There were quite a few blogger designs that I was envious of and wished that I was smart enough to figure out how to edit the pre-made templates out there. Eventually, I figured out how to do it. Now, I'm totally in love with my current design. When I get bored, I like to change it up, but I'm pretty sure I'll keep the one I have now for a while. The design that I liked for a while now is Ren's design on her blog Ren's Rambles. She designed it herself, and something about it just appeals to me. I was thinking maybe it's the dotted lines on the sidebar or the cute stamp-looking meme images she has :)
As for blogger hauls, I used to be quite envious when I see bloggers receiving so many good books or ARCs from publishers. I thought it was so cool and they must be very important bloggers. Eventually, I got over it. The pressure and obligation of reading those books on a deadline was just too much for me. Now, I just sign up on blog tours and get the books in e-format.
Finally, there are many bloggers out there who have a lot of followers. When I was starting out, this was also one of my concerns. However, after a while, I decided that follower numbers are not important to me. What's important is the follower interaction that I get on my blog. What's the point of having hundreds and thousands of followers if the comments you get are one or two for each post? I don't need follower numbers since I'm not one of those bloggers who requests books from publishers. That said, I'm happy with the numbers I have.
Do YOU have blogger envy? Let me know in the comments!
